Friday, October 9, 2026

We count this date from the issue date. Your real deadline is 15 working days from the day the citation letter arrived, which is often a few days later. So this date has passed, but your deadline may still be open if the letter arrived less than 15 working days ago. Find your exact deadline with the calculator below. Contest deadline calculator

15 working days to contest an OSHA citation

A federal employer has 15 working days to file a notice of contest or ask for an informal conference. Count from the day the citation arrived. Day 1 is the next working day. Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays do not count.

Pick the date the citation arrived, not the date printed on it. Weekends and federal holidays are skipped.

OSHA Action Packet is an administrative tool. It is not legal advice and not a law firm. Talk to a lawyer before you decide whether to contest. We calculate these dates from public data and the date you enter. Check them against your own citation.
